The 3 moves that make you look like you've been dancing for years
Most people think learning Latin dance takes months before you stop looking awkward. That's not true.
There are exactly 3 moves that, once you nail them, completely change how you look on the dance floor:
1. The basic step with hip motion — Everyone teaches the footwork. Almost nobody teaches the hip isolation that makes the basic step look good. The secret: your hips follow your weight transfer, they don't move independently. Stop forcing it.
2. The cross-body lead — This is the single most versatile move in salsa. You can dance an entire song with variations of this one pattern and look completely competent. It's the Swiss Army knife of social dancing.
3. A clean right turn — Not a spin. A turn. Controlled, balanced, on tempo. When you can execute a clean right turn without losing your frame, you instantly look like you know what you're doing.
I've taught hundreds of complete beginners. The ones who focus on getting these 3 moves clean — before trying anything fancy — are the ones who get compliments at their first social dance night.
