The 3 objections that kill 80% of roofing deals (and exactly how to handle them)
After closing $1.6M in roofing sales in 6 months, I can tell you — most deals aren't lost on price. They're lost on three specific objections that reps fumble every single day.
Here's what they are and how I train teams to handle them:
"We need to get more quotes"
This isn't actually about quotes. The homeowner is telling you they don't trust that you're the right choice yet. The fix isn't to bash competitors — it's to reframe around risk. "Totally understand. Most homeowners get 2-3 quotes. What specifically are you looking to compare?" Then address the real concern.
"We need to talk to my spouse"
If you're hearing this at the end of the appointment, you already lost. The fix is earlier — always confirm decision makers and get them both present. If one's missing, adjust your close to a scheduled follow-up with both parties, not a "let me think about it."
"That's more than we expected"
This is where most reps panic and start discounting. Don't. Instead: "Compared to what?" Most homeowners have no idea what a roof costs. Walk them through material differences, warranty coverage, and what happens when they go cheap. Value beats price every time.
These aren't scripts — they're frameworks. The delivery matters. Tone, timing, body language, camera presence on virtual calls — all of it.
I built Roof Closer Academy to give roofing company owners the full system to train their teams. Not just objection handling — everything from first contact to signed contract, D2D or virtual.
If your team is leaving deals on the table, that's fixable.
