5 Rust Wipe Day Mistakes That Get You Raided Before Midnight
Most players lose everything on wipe day — not because they're bad, but because they repeat the same five mistakes every single time.
I've been playing Rust for years and studying base design, early-game loot routes, and raid defense. Here's what I see people get wrong on day one:
1. Building too close to monuments
Yes, the loot is tempting. But you're also painting a target. Every chad group hits the 3-4 grid squares around Launch, Mili Tunnels, and Airfield within the first two hours. Build 2+ grids out and run loot home.
2. Upgrading walls before getting a second airlock
Stone walls don't matter if someone can deep you through a single door. Prioritize door layers first — walls second. A twig base with three airlocks survives longer than a stone 2x2 with one door.
3. Ignoring the TC stack
Your tool cupboard should have 24+ hours of upkeep within the first 3 hours of wipe. If your base decays overnight because you forgot to farm extra stone, that's not bad luck — that's lazy farming.
4. Roofcamping before you have a shooting floor
Going on your roof with a bolty and no peek-downs is a guaranteed counter-raid invite. If you can't shoot without exposing your body to 3+ angles, don't go up there.
5. Trusting compound walls too early
A compound looks secure but it screams "loot inside" to any roaming group. Skip the compound until you have armored core and at least 8 rockets worth of defense depth.
These might sound basic — but even experienced players slip up on wipe day because they're rushing. Slow down, build smart, survive.
