Why most new SMMA owners fail in the first 90 days (and how to skip past it)

Most people starting an SMMA don't fail because of a bad niche or a weak offer. They fail because they try to do everything at once — outreach, fulfillment, hiring, systems — with no sequencing.

Here's the order that actually works if you're starting from zero:

  1. Pick ONE niche and ONE service you can deliver well in under a week. Not five services. One. Speed to first result builds your case studies faster than anything else.

  1. Get your first 3 clients through outreach you do personally — DMs, cold email, warm network. Don't touch paid ads for client acquisition until you've closed manually at least a handful of times. You need to understand objections before you pay to scale them.

  1. Systemize fulfillment before you systemize sales. If you sign 10 clients before you have a repeatable delivery process, you'll drown in churn and refunds. Build the SOP after client #1, refine it by client #3.

  1. Only hire once you're turning away work. Hiring too early kills margins and adds management overhead you don't need yet.

The agencies that scale past $10k/mo are almost always the ones that nailed steps 1-3 before ever touching step 4. Speed matters, but sequencing matters more.
