The pistol-conversion signal most round handicap bettors ignore
Quick breakdown for anyone betting CS2 round handicaps:
Most people price round handicaps off overall team strength. That's too blunt. The sharper signal is pistol conversion rate — how often a team wins 2-3 rounds after winning the opening pistol.
Why it matters: books model round handicaps largely off side-strength averages, but pistol conversion is a distinct skill (round-by-round decision making, buy discipline, anti-eco execution) that doesn't show up in aggregate stats. Teams with strong pistol conversion consistently cover round handicaps that look "fair" on paper.
How to check it fast:
Pull a team's last 3 events
Isolate rounds immediately following pistol wins
Calculate win rate on those follow-up rounds (2-3 round window)
Compare against the market's implied round handicap — if pistol conversion is elite and the line hasn't adjusted, that's your gap
Combine this with a side-strength differential (T vs CT win rate split) and you've got two independent signals confirming the same mispricing instead of one noisy one.
This is one piece of the full scanning framework I use to run a handicap service — happy to answer questions on methodology in the comments.
