Welcome to SCCM Mastery

Welcome aboard — you just made the best investment in your SCCM career.

Here's how to get started:

1. Join the Community Chat — introduce yourself. Tell us what environment you're managing (how many endpoints, what OS mix, hybrid or on-prem).

2. Check the Courses — start with the fundamentals if you're new to ConfigMgr, or jump straight to the patch management modules if you're already running SCCM.

3. Ask questions freely — there are no dumb questions here. We've all been the person staring at a failed deployment at 2 AM.

New content drops weekly. If there's a specific scenario you want covered, drop it in the chat.

Let's get your patching game locked in. 🔒

The 5 SCCM Patch Management Mistakes That Will Get You Fired

I've been managing SCCM/ConfigMgr environments for years, and I keep seeing the same mistakes destroy IT careers. Here's what to avoid:

1. No maintenance windows. Pushing patches without defined maintenance windows is how you take down production at 2 PM on a Tuesday. Always scope your deployments to off-hours with proper MW configs.

2. Skipping test collections. If your patch workflow goes from "download" straight to "deploy to All Systems," you're playing Russian roulette. Build a tiered deployment ring: pilot → limited → broad.

3. Ignoring supersedence rules. Your software update groups are probably bloated with superseded patches. This slows scans, breaks compliance numbers, and confuses your reporting. Clean them monthly.

4. Not monitoring client health. SCCM can't patch what it can't reach. If your client health dashboard isn't green, your compliance numbers are lying to you. Fix your boundaries, fallback status points, and client push settings first.

5. Manual everything. If you're still manually approving and deploying patches each month, you're burning 20+ hours on something that should be an ADR (Automatic Deployment Rule) running itself.

I built SCCM Mastery to help IT admins stop making these mistakes and start running patch management like a machine. Courses, real configs, and a community of pros who've been in the trenches.
