Welcome Aboard, Future Speakers! 🚢

Your Journey to Confident English Presentations Starts Now

Welcome to SeaSpeak Academy — the only course designed specifically for cruise ship staff preparing to lead English-language mission trip community introduction talks.

What You'll Find Here

📚 Course Materials — 15 structured lessons across 5 chapters, from maritime English fundamentals through real-world scenario practice. Complete them in order — each builds on the last.

💬 Crew Lounge — Your private space to connect with fellow crew members, share experiences, and practice phrases.

📢 Updates & Resources — I'll post supplementary materials, pronunciation guides, new scenario scripts, and industry updates regularly.

How to Get the Most Out of This Course

  1. Start with Chapter 1, Lesson 1 — Don't skip ahead. The framework is sequential for a reason.

  2. Practice out loud — Every lesson includes speaking exercises. Reading silently won't build the muscle memory you need on stage.

  3. Use the templates — The talk frameworks, vocabulary tables, and model scripts are designed to be adapted. Make them yours.

  4. Engage in the Crew Lounge — Post your practice recordings, ask questions, share what's working. The crew members who engage the most improve the fastest.

  5. Complete the Final Assessment — In Chapter 5, you'll build a complete 3-talk set for a real voyage scenario.

A Quick Note on Pace

You're working professionals on demanding schedules. There's no deadline. Move through the material at whatever pace your watch schedule allows — but stay consistent. Even 20 minutes a day compounds fast.

Fair winds and following seas. Let's get to work.

5 English Phrases Every Cruise Ship Crew Member Mispronounces (And How to Fix Them)

If you work on a cruise ship and lead any kind of group talk in English — whether it's a safety briefing, a shore excursion intro, or a community gathering — these five pronunciation traps catch almost everyone.

1. "Itinerary" → /aɪˈtɪn.ə.rer.i/

Common mistake: "It-in-ary" or "I-tin-ary" (3 syllables)

Correct: "Eye-TIN-uh-rare-ee" (5 syllables)

This word appears in nearly every embarkation day talk. Practice it until it's automatic.

2. "Colleagues" → /ˈkɒl.iːɡz/

Common mistake: "Col-lee-ags" (3 syllables)

Correct: "COL-eegz" (2 syllables)

When introducing your team during a community talk, stumbling here undermines your authority before you've even started.

3. "Accommodate" → /əˈkɒm.ə.deɪt/

Common mistake: "A-com-date" (dropping the middle syllable)

Correct: "Uh-COM-uh-date" (4 syllables)

You'll use this constantly: "We can accommodate dietary needs," "Let us accommodate your schedule."

4. "Ecclesiastical" → /ɪˌkliː.ziˈæs.tɪ.kəl/

Common mistake: Various creative attempts

Correct: "Eh-KLEE-zee-AS-tih-kul" (6 syllables)

If you're leading faith-based community introductions, this word shows up in describing traditions, roles, and settings. Getting it right signals preparation.

5. "Genuinely" → /ˈdʒen.ju.ɪn.li/

Common mistake: "Gen-yoo-wine-lee"

Correct: "JEN-yoo-in-lee" (4 syllables)

A staple in any heartfelt community talk: "We are genuinely glad you're here."

---

Quick drill: Say each word 5 times slowly, then 5 times at normal speed. Record yourself on your phone and play it back. You'll hear the difference immediately.

These are just 5 of the 100+ maritime and faith-based vocabulary items covered in our full course. If you're cruise ship staff preparing to lead English-language community introduction talks, the complete program takes you from foundations through delivering a full talk set with confidence.
