The volume-fluctuation problem nobody warns new amputees about
Something we hear constantly from new amputees: your limb volume doesn't stabilize for months (sometimes over a year) after amputation. Swelling goes down, muscle atrophies, and the socket that fit perfectly at week 2 is loose by week 8.
Most people's first instinct is to just "push through it" or over-tighten their liner. That's how you end up with skin breakdown, pressure sores, or bruising — which then delays rehab even further.
The actual fix is boring but it works: keep a range of sock plies on hand (1-ply, 3-ply, 5-ply) and add/remove them daily based on how your limb feels that morning. Track it. Most prosthetists will tell you this, but almost nobody sends new amputees home with an actual supply — you're left sourcing them yourself, usually in a pinch.
We started SecureFit because of exactly this gap: a subscription that keeps a rotating supply of socks/sleeves coming so you're never stuck improvising with cotton socks or duct tape (yes, people really do this). If you're in that early adjustment window, happy to answer questions here — this community exists because of that exact problem.
