Why most SaaS founders get software licensing wrong
If you're selling software and still managing license keys with spreadsheets, ENV files, or homegrown scripts — you're leaving money on the table and inviting piracy.
Here's the thing most founders don't realize until it's too late: license management isn't a "nice to have" — it's revenue protection.
The 3 mistakes I see constantly:
1. No activation verification
You ship a key, the customer shares it on Discord, and now 50 people are using your product for free. Without OTP-based activation (SMS or email), there's no way to tie a key to a real person.
2. No admin visibility
You can't manage what you can't see. If you don't have a dashboard showing which keys are active, which are expired, and which are being abused — you're flying blind.
3. DIY infrastructure that doesn't scale
SQLite on a $5 VPS works until it doesn't. When your product takes off and you're handling thousands of activations per day, you need infrastructure that won't buckle.
The fix
I built SerialFlow to solve exactly this. It's a full activation platform — Cloudflare + Supabase backend, admin dashboard with real-time key management, and built-in Twilio/Resend integration for OTP verification.
If you're a SaaS founder shipping software, this is the missing piece.
