5 Security Mistakes Every Event Organiser Makes

Been in security for a while now. Here are the mistakes I see event organisers make over and over — and they're all preventable.

1. Hiring security last minute

Security should be one of the first things you lock in, not an afterthought the week before. Last-minute hires mean untrained staff and no site assessment.

2. Underestimating crowd density

A "small event" of 200 people in a tight venue is more dangerous than 1,000 in an open field. Crowd density kills — plan for the worst case.

3. No communication plan

If your security team can't communicate with each other and your event staff in real time, you're running blind. Radios, not group chats.

4. Ignoring entry/exit flow

Bottlenecks at entry points cause fights, crushes, and frustration. Design your entry flow like it's the most important part of the event — because it is.

5. Not debriefing after events

Every event should end with a security debrief. What went right, what went wrong, what do we change next time. Most teams skip this entirely.

If any of this hits home, reach out. We handle security for events, nightclubs, private functions, and businesses across Australia. Custom quotes, no cookie-cutter packages.
