The #1 mistake beginners make with options (and how to avoid it)

Most beginners blow up their first account the same way: they buy far out-of-the-money weekly options because they're cheap.

Here's why that's a trap:

  • Theta decay eats your position alive. Weeklies lose value fast, especially OTM ones.

  • You need a massive move just to break even. The odds are stacked against you.

  • It feels like gambling — because it basically is.

What to do instead:

  1. Start with longer-dated options (30-60 DTE minimum). Gives you time to be right.

  2. Trade closer to the money. Higher delta = your option actually moves when the stock does.

  3. Size small. Risk 1-2% of your account per trade max. Capital preservation > home runs.

  4. Learn to read a chart before you ever place a trade. Price action tells you everything.

This is what I teach inside Sharp Regard Trading — real setups, real education, no hype. If you're serious about learning options the right way, come through.
