The 3 mistakes killing reseller margins on variety lots

Been sourcing and flipping wholesale lots for a while now, and the same three mistakes keep showing up when resellers DM me for advice:

1. Buying single-category lots when you don't have single-category demand.

If you're selling on a general marketplace (not a niche storefront), a 100-unit lot of one SKU means you're competing against everyone else who bought the same lot. Mixed-category lots (beauty + home + accessories) let you test what actually sells in your audience before you overcommit.

2. Skipping the grading step.

Wholesale lots almost always have a spread of condition — new, open-box, cosmetic damage. Resellers who grade and photograph honestly before relisting get fewer returns and better ratings than the ones who just relist everything as "new." Takes 10 extra minutes per lot, saves you dispute headaches later.

3. Not tracking cost-per-unit against actual sell-through.

A $129 lot of 50 units sounds like $2.58/unit, but if 15 of those units don't sell, your real cost per sold unit is closer to $3.69. Track sell-through rate, not just landed cost, or your margin math will lie to you.

Started doing this properly at Milani Wholesale — curated variety lots specifically built for resale, graded fairly, restocked weekly. Happy to answer questions if anyone's getting into flipping.

The 3-product rule that fixed my rushed morning makeup routine

I used to spend 25 minutes every morning layering products I didn't need. Here's the rule that cut it down to 8 minutes without losing the finish:

1 base, 1 color, 1 lock. That's it.

  • Base: one product that evens tone AND hydrates (skip separate primer + foundation if your skin's decent — a tinted moisturizer or BB does both).

  • Color: one multi-use stick for cheeks + lips. Cream products blend faster than powder and double as a lip tint.

  • Lock: a single setting spray or powder, applied only on your T-zone, not your whole face — this is where most people waste time and product.

The trap people fall into is chasing an 8-step routine because that's what shows up in tutorials. Full-coverage, editorial makeup is built for photos, not your 7am mirror. Strip it down to what actually holds up through a workday, and you'll reach for it every single morning instead of skipping it.
