Pedals and a rigid mount beat more torque

The most expensive mistake in sim racing is buying a stronger wheelbase while your pedals are mushy and the wheel is clamped to a wobbly desk.

More newton-metres feel exciting in a product video. In the car, they just make a cheap mount twist and a cheap pedal set even harder to modulate. You spend more and the car still feels vague.

A better order for most people:

  1. Pedals you can actually trail-brake on

  2. A rig or stand that does not flex

  3. Then the wheelbase

That order holds from a first €500 setup through a €4,000 GT3 rig. Ecosystem (MOZA, Fanatec, and the rest) matters too, because the wrong one on PlayStation or Xbox can lock you out of the wheel you wanted.

If you’re shopping right now, write down platform, budget, and what you already own before you open another product page. That short list stops most of the expensive guesses.
