5 A32NX cold start mistakes that keep new pilots stuck on the ground

If you're flying the FlyByWire A32NX in Microsoft Flight Simulator and can't figure out why nothing works after spawning cold & dark — you're probably hitting one of these.

1. Skipping the battery before external power

You need BAT1 and BAT2 ON before you can connect external power. No batteries = no electrical bus = the EXT PWR button on the overhead won't even illuminate. Batteries first, always.

2. Not waiting for the ADIRS to align

After turning all three ADIRS knobs to NAV, alignment takes ~5-8 minutes (real time, not sim time). If you try to program the MCDU before alignment finishes, your navigation data will be garbage. Let it cook.

3. Programming the MCDU out of order

The FlyByWire A32NX is picky about MCDU sequence. Go: FROM/TO → flight number → INIT B (fuel/weights) → F-PLN. If you jump to the flight plan page before entering your origin/destination, the sim won't accept your SimBrief import properly.

4. Starting engines with the parking brake situation wrong

During pushback you should be on the tug with parking brake released, then set before engine start. If you're starting at the gate without pushback, parking brake stays ON. Forgetting this during pushback = your plane rolls while engines are spooling.

5. Leaving the APU bleed on after engine start

Once both engines are running and stable, turn APU BLEED off, then APU MASTER off. Leaving APU bleed on while engines supply bleed air creates a dual-source bleed situation that the real aircraft doesn't operate with in normal conditions.

These five things trip up most new A32NX pilots. Once you nail the startup sequence, everything else starts clicking. Happy flying ✈️
