Most people bet on who they think will win. That's not sports betting β that's fandom with money attached.
Sharp bettors don't bet teams. They bet lines.
The difference: a team can win the game and you still lose your bet. A team can lose and you still cash. The only thing that matters is whether the sportsbook's number is wrong β and they are wrong, constantly.
Here's the shift: stop asking "who wins?" and start asking "is this number too high or too low?"
Three things that actually move the needle:
1. Line shopping is non-negotiable. Getting -105 instead of -110 sounds small. Over 200 bets, that's the difference between profit and ruin.
2. Fade public perception, not results. The public bets what's popular. Sharp money bets value. When 80%+ of tickets are on one side and the line moves the other way β that's signal.
3. Smaller unit sizes, longer time horizon. Everyone blows up their bankroll chasing a bad week. 1-2 units per play, minimum 200 bets before judging a system. Patience is the actual edge.
I built SkinnyPicks around this. Every pick I post has a reason. No parlays, no fluff β just plays where I think the book is wrong.
