The private aviation industry doesn't want you to know this

Most people think flying private is for billionaires. It's not — it's for people who know how the system works.

Here's what the industry won't tell you:

Empty legs exist because jets have to reposition. When a G650 flies from Miami to NYC with a client, it has to fly back empty. That "dead leg" gets sold at 50-70% off. Operators have to move the aircraft regardless.

Jet cards aren't always worth it. A $100K jet card sounds like a deal. But dynamic pricing clauses mean peak surcharges can destroy your "fixed" rate. Always read section 6 of the agreement.

The aircraft type determines everything. A Light Jet burns ~$1,800/hr. A Heavy burns ~$4,500/hr. Most brokers quote the heavy because their margin is higher. Know your payload and range before you take a single call.

Fractional ownership is mostly sold wrong. Positioning fees, management fees, and peak day restrictions can make a "1/16th share" cost more per hour than on-demand charter.

This is what SkyInsider covers — actual intelligence for people who fly private without getting taken.
