Why most multi-location businesses are invisible on Google Maps (and it's not what you think)
Ran the numbers across a bunch of local business Google profiles recently and found something that surprised me: it's rarely the reviews that kill local rankings. It's silence.
Google's local algorithm heavily weights posting frequency and recency on Business Profiles. A location that hasn't posted in 60+ days gets treated as "stale" — even with a 4.8 star rating and hundreds of reviews. Meanwhile a mediocre competitor posting twice a week edges into the map pack.
The problem is obvious once you see it: agencies and multi-location brands manage 5, 20, sometimes 100+ locations. Manually posting to each one is a part-time job nobody has time for. So it gets skipped. Every. Time.
A few things that actually move the needle if you're managing local SEO for multiple locations:
Post 2-3x/week minimum per location — frequency matters more than perfection
Respond to every review within 24-48 hours — response rate is a ranking signal, not just a trust signal
Keep posts hyper-local — mention neighborhoods, local events, seasonal offers, not generic copy
Track it like a KPI — "profile freshness" should be on your client reporting dashboard, not an afterthought
We built Slashpost because we kept seeing agencies lose map pack rankings simply from lack of bandwidth, not lack of strategy. If you're managing local SEO for multiple clients and want to stop losing the freshness game, worth a look.
