The one sleeper pick mistake that kills your record before it starts
Spent the last few years tracking why some "sleeper" picks turn into a real following and others quietly disappear after one bad week. It almost always comes down to one thing:
People pick players/teams that are undervalued in the moment, but ignore whether the SITUATION is undervalued.
A guy having a good week doesn't make him a sleeper. A guy having a good week because his usage just changed (injury ahead of him, scheme shift, easier matchup stretch coming up) — that's a sleeper. The name is basically irrelevant. The situation is the signal.
Quick way to check yourself before you post a pick publicly:
Can you explain the "why now" in one sentence without mentioning last week's box score?
Is there a specific, checkable reason this gets better over the next 2-3 weeks (not just "vibes")?
Would you still like this pick if it went 0-for-1 first? (If the answer is no, it wasn't a real conviction pick — it was a guess.)
The accounts that build real trust and followings aren't the ones who nail every pick. They're the ones who can explain their reasoning clearly enough that people trust the process, even on the picks that miss.
Track your reasoning, not just your record. The record follows.
