Most “failed prints” are a first-layer problem, not a bad STL
If you run an Ender, a Prusa, or a Bambu at home, you already know the pattern: the file looks fine in the slicer, the printer starts, and 20 minutes later you have spaghetti.
Nine times out of ten it is not the model. It is the first 0.2 mm.
Check these before you blame the file
Bed actually clean. IPA is not optional after a PETG print.
Z-offset. If the first layer is shiny and thin, you are too close. If it is round beads that wipe off, you are too far.
Same filament profile you used last week. A “generic PLA” profile on a dry roll vs a wet roll is a different machine.
Supports only where the overhang actually needs them. Over-supporting hides a bad orientation.
When the machine itself is the problem
A clogged hotend, a warped bed, a skipped extruder, or a Bambu that keeps pausing on AMS errors will wreck every file you throw at it. Re-slicing will not fix that. That is a hardware session, not a new STL.
Print-ready files still need a printer that can lay down a first layer. Get that right and most “bad STLs” disappear.
