Most guys blame the blade when they get bumps. But 9 times out of 10, the real problem is shaving against your grain on skin that wasn't prepped.
Here's what actually causes razor bumps:
Curly or coarse hair curls back into the skin after being cut, creating an ingrown. The closer the shave, the worse it gets — which is why multi-blade razors make it worse for a lot of guys.
The fix is simple:
Map your grain direction (it's not the same everywhere on your face)
Shave WITH the grain first, then across it — never against
Use a single-blade safety razor or a quality cartridge with 2 blades max
Always shave on wet, warm skin with a proper lather — not dry, not with just water
After you shave:
A basic post-shave routine changes everything. Rinse with cold water to close pores, apply an alcohol-free aftershave balm (witch hazel-based is great), and moisturize. That's it.
Most guys never learn this because nobody teaches it. That's why I built SmoothPath — personalized shaving plans based on your actual skin type and hair texture, plus a post-shave skincare routine so you stop dealing with cuts, bumps, and irritation for good.
