The Excel spreadsheet file is here. Download it, save a copy to your own drive, and open it in Microsoft Excel 2021 or Microsoft 365. Enter your project details on the Cover tab and work through the Inputs tab — everything else calculates automatically.

Inside the Hoarding Design Spreadsheet - What's in the workbook


A quick walkthrough of what you get when you buy the Hoarding Design Spreadsheet.

Inputs tab — all geometry, materials, foundation type, wind zone, and analysis factors live in one place. Yellow cells are user inputs; everything else is locked and traceable.

Wind module (Wind) — peak velocity pressure to BS 5975-2:2024 simplified method. Combined exposure factor (Cef) looked up automatically from Tables 9 and 10. Outputs feed straight into the Loading tab.

Loading tab — three TWf Table 1 load combinations (LC1 storm, LC2 working + notional, LC3 working + crowd). Governing case auto-flagged.

Member design — face, rail, and post checks to BS 5268-2 permissible stress. Each section returns a utilisation ratio with Pass/Fail.

Foundation tab — toggle between post-in-hole (PD 6547:2023 method) and kentledge ballast (TWf Appendix G). The unused method greys out automatically so the calc stays clean.

Connections tab — face-to-rail and rail-to-post screw checks, using cp,net for the design zone.

Results tab — single-page summary of every utilisation ratio for the calc package.

Printed output is A4 portrait with the project header on every page — ready to drop into the TW design file.

Welcome to Solius Engineering

Solius Engineering builds practical Excel design tools for UK temporary works engineers — the kind of tools I wanted on hand when running my own TW calcs.

The first product is a complete Hoarding Design Spreadsheet, written to TWf 2012:01, BS 5975-2:2024, and the UK National Annex to BS EN 1991-1-4. It runs the full check — wind loading, post and rail sizing, foundation design (kentledge or post-in-hole), connections, and a printable calc report — in one structured workbook.

More TW tools are coming: falsework, propping, formwork. Each one built to current UK codes, with traceable workings and a clean print output for your design file.
