Most resumes never reach a human. The scanner rejects the file first. Use this checklist before you send another application.
Fancy columns, text boxes, or tables. ATS tools often skip them. Use a single-column layout.
Headers and footers for contact info. Put your email and phone in the body.
Unusual section titles. Use Experience, Education, Skills.
Images, icons, or skill bars. They look nice and they break parsing.
A photo on the resume. Skip it unless the job requires one.
Dates written in mixed formats. Pick one style, such as Jan 2023 – Present.
Job titles that only make sense inside your old company. Use the market title.
Walls of duties with no results. Add a number: time saved, revenue, volume, rank.
A file named resume.pdf. Use Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf.
Submitting a Pages or Designer file. Export a clean PDF (and keep a Word copy).
