Yard haunts fail on the printer, not the design
Most Halloween yard props die on the first layer, not in the CAD file.
If you’re printing tombstones, pumpkins, or skulls for the lawn this season, three things wreck the print before you ever get to paint:
Scaling a tabletop STL to yard size. Walls go thin. Infill turns into spaghetti. Print at the size the file was built for, or add walls — don’t just hit 300% in the slicer.
Printing hollow “to save filament.” Outdoor props take wind and kids. 4 walls, 15% infill, PETG if it might rain.
Chasing a perfect surface on a piece that sits 20 feet from the sidewalk. 0.2mm is enough. Spend the hours on primer and a dirt wash, not on ironing.
I built SpookyStl around files that already assume FDM hobby printers and a yard, not a resin plate. If your printer is the thing that’s actually broken — clogs, first-layer fail, warped bed — that’s a different job. Don’t buy more STLs until the machine lays a clean first layer.
