Hobby printers that ran PLA all summer start dropping Halloween yard props in the first cold week. Same file. Same settings. Different night air.

PLA gets brittle below ~15°C / 60°F. A 3-foot tombstone that sat fine in September will snap at the base when you drag it across wet grass in October. That’s material, not a bad STL.

What actually holds up outside:

• PETG for anything that lives on the lawn overnight

• Split the model at the stress point (usually the ankle, stem, or stake pocket) and glue after

• Print the stake/base 3 walls thicker than the decorative shell

• Orient so layer lines run across the wind, not with it

If you’re printing haunted-home props this month, print a 20-minute test coupon of the stake geometry first. Don’t find out at 11pm on the 30th that the base sheared.
