The 3 mistakes that ruin embroidery projects (and how to avoid them)
I've been embroidering for years, and I still see the same three mistakes killing otherwise beautiful pieces.
1. Wrong fabric tension
If your canvas isn't taut in the hoop, your stitches will pucker. Always tighten until you can lightly tap it like a drum. Re-tighten every 20 minutes of stitching.
2. Thread too long
Anything over 18 inches will tangle and fray. Cut shorter lengths — it feels slower but you'll actually finish faster because you're not untangling knots.
3. Skipping the chart
Even experienced stitchers skip reading the stitch chart thoroughly before starting. Spend 10 minutes studying the color map and stitch direction before you pick up a needle. It saves hours of ripping stitches.
