The 2-Minute Rule That Fixed My Overthinking

I spent 3 years stuck in the same loop: research everything, weigh every option, make a pros and cons list, then... do nothing.

Career decisions. Side projects. Even picking what to eat for dinner. My brain treated every choice like it was life or death.

Here's the thing nobody tells you: overthinking isn't a personality trait. It's a habit. And habits can be broken with systems.

The simplest one I've found? The 2-Minute Rule.

If a decision won't matter in 2 years, spend no more than 2 minutes deciding. Set a literal timer if you have to.

  • Which gym to join? 2 minutes. Pick one. Go.

  • Which online course to take? 2 minutes. Start it tonight.

  • Reply to that text you've been drafting in your head for 3 days? 2 minutes. Send it.

You'll be wrong sometimes. That's fine. A wrong decision made today beats a "perfect" decision made never.

This is just one technique from a whole system I built after years of being stuck. If you're a student or young professional drowning in decisions, the full Stop Overthinking System breaks down exactly how to rewire your brain for action.

But start with this: next decision you're stuck on, set a 2-minute timer right now. Just try it once.

Why You Feel Stuck (It’s Not Laziness)

You’re not lazy.

You’re overloaded.

Too many options → too many variables → brain freezes.

That’s not a motivation problem. That’s a system problem.

Your brain is trying to calculate every outcome.

So it delays everything.

Solution?

Reduce choices.

Instead of:
“What’s the best thing I can do?”

Ask:
“What’s the next obvious step?”

Clarity comes from action, not thinking.
