Why most people's Instagram Stories don't sell (and the 3-part fix)
Spent the last few months testing story sequences for creators with small, engaged audiences (sub-10k followers). Here's the pattern behind why most story-selling attempts flop:
1. They pitch before they prove. If your first sales-adjacent story is "link in bio," you've skipped the part where people decide to trust you. Proof has to come before the ask — always.
2. They ask for a decision, not a reply. The best-performing stories in this system aren't the ones with a "swipe up" — they're the ones with a poll, a question sticker, or a "reply with 🙋" that gets someone to engage first. Engagement before conversion.
3. They never handle the objection out loud. The single highest-converting story type we found: naming the objection your audience already has ("this won't work if I don't have a big following") and answering it directly, on-camera, before they even ask.
Built this into a full 14-day sequence (hook → proof → objection handling → soft pitch → close) for a course called Instagram Story Sell Sequence. If you want the full breakdown, templates, and scripts, it's linked on this page.
Happy to answer questions on story selling in the comments — this is genuinely the thing I nerd out on most.
