The one mistake every beginner guitarist makes (and how to fix it in a week)
Most beginners spend their first month trying to learn songs.
That feels productive. It's not.
When you jump straight to songs, you're masking bad technique. Sloppy fretting hand, weak finger placement, tension in your wrist — it all gets buried under "I'm learning Wonderwall!"
Then 3 months in, you plateau hard and can't figure out why.
The fix is boring but it works. Spend your first 2 weeks only on these 3 things:
Clean single notes — press each fret individually, listen for buzzing, fix it before moving on
The spider exercise — builds finger independence faster than anything else
Chord transitions in slow motion — G to C to D, over and over, no metronome until it's clean
15 minutes a day for a week. Your muscle memory will thank you for the rest of your guitar life.
I built String Theory for beginners who want to skip the plateau — structured lessons, a real community, and coaching that focuses on technique first.
