The study method that got me through uni (and why most students do it wrong)
Most uni students study the same way: re-read notes, highlight everything, cram the night before. Then wonder why they barely pass.
Here's the problem — recognition is not recall. Re-reading your notes makes them feel familiar, but familiarity ≠ understanding. Your brain tricks you into thinking you know it.
The method that actually works:
1. Active recall — Close your notes. Try to write down everything you remember. The struggle IS the learning.
2. Spaced repetition — Don't study the same topic 5 hours straight. Study it for 30 minutes, then come back tomorrow. Then 3 days later. Then a week later.
3. Practice under exam conditions — Time yourself. No notes. No phone. Your brain needs to practice retrieving information under pressure, not in comfort.
4. Teach it — If you can't explain a concept in simple terms, you don't actually understand it. Find a study partner and take turns teaching.
I built StudyFlow AI to automate all of this — it generates your spaced repetition schedule, creates exam-style questions from your notes, and tracks which topics you're weak on.
But even without any tool, these 4 principles will change your grades. Try it for your next midsem and thank me later.
