How I Build Targeted Contact Lists That Actually Convert (Step-by-Step)
Most freelancers and agencies waste hours scraping random contacts that go nowhere. Here's the exact process I use to build targeted lists that actually book meetings:
1. Define your ICP before you touch any tool
The biggest mistake people make is searching broadly. Before I pull a single contact, I lock in the exact job title, company size, industry, and geography. A list of 500 right people beats a list of 5,000 wrong ones.
2. Layer your data sources
No single source gives you complete, verified data. I cross-reference 2-3 sources to validate emails and phone numbers before they go into the list. This keeps bounce rates low and deliverability high.
3. Verify in batches — never send blind
Every email goes through verification. Every phone number gets checked against DNC registries. This step alone is the difference between a campaign that lands and one that kills your sender reputation.
4. Structure the list for whoever's doing outreach
A list isn't just names and emails. I include LinkedIn URLs, company websites, employee count, and any relevant context that makes personalization faster. The easier you make it for the person doing outreach, the better the results.
I do this done-for-you for agencies and freelancers — and I also teach this entire process in my course for those who want to do it themselves.
If you're doing cold outreach and struggling with list quality, this is usually the root cause.
