Why most intermediate lifters stop making progress (and how to fix it)
You've been training for 1-2 years. You're not a beginner anymore โ but the PRs aren't coming like they used to.
Here's what's actually happening:
You're running beginner programs past their shelf life. StrongLifts and Starting Strength are great โ for 6 months. After that, your body needs more variation, more volume management, and smarter periodization. Linear progression stops working because your recovery can't keep up.
The fix isn't more volume. It's better structure.
Most intermediate lifters need:
A proper mesocycle (4-8 weeks of focused work before a deload)
RPE-based programming instead of fixed percentages
Weak point identification โ your deadlift stalling might be a bracing problem, not a pulling problem
I built Super Lift to solve exactly this. A strength training app for lifters who've already put in the time and want a real path to new PRs โ not another generic 5x5.
If you're stuck at the same weights you were hitting 6 months ago, that's the sign. Time to change the stimulus.
