Why Most Gym Injuries Happen (And How to Actually Prevent Them)

Most people think injuries are random. They're not.

After years as an NHS physiotherapist and working with athletes of all levels, I see the same patterns over and over:

1. You skip the warm-up (or do a rubbish one)

5 minutes on the bike isn't a warm-up. Your warm-up should prep the specific joints, muscles, and movement patterns you're about to load. A proper warm-up takes 10 minutes and cuts your injury risk dramatically.

2. You push through pain thinking it'll "sort itself out"

Pain is information. It doesn't always mean stop — but it does mean something needs addressing. The earlier you deal with it, the faster and cheaper the fix.

3. You train the same way, every week, forever

Your body adapts. If you never change the stimulus — load, tempo, range of motion, volume — you create overuse patterns. Periodisation isn't just for elite athletes.

4. You ignore mobility until it becomes a problem

If you can't get into a position without compensating, you shouldn't be loading that position. Simple as that.

The fix isn't complicated. It's consistent assessment, smart programming, and knowing when to push vs. when to pull back.

That's exactly what I help my clients with — evidence-based rehab and performance coaching that keeps you training hard without breaking down.

If you're dealing with persistent pain, recurring injuries, or just want to train smarter — I'm here.
