The #1 reason beginner day traders blow up their account (it's not what you think)

Most people assume beginner day traders lose money because they pick bad trades. That's not usually it.

The real killer is position sizing. New traders risk 10-20% of their account on a single trade because "the setup looked good." One bad trade later, they're down 40% and revenge trading to get it back.

Here's the rule that actually matters before any strategy, indicator, or chart pattern:

Never risk more than 1-2% of your account on a single trade.

Do the math before you ever place an order:

  • Account size × 1% = max dollar risk

  • (Entry price − stop loss price) = risk per share

  • Max dollar risk ÷ risk per share = position size

That's it. Master this before you worry about anything else. A mediocre strategy with strict risk management will outlast a "perfect" strategy with none — every time.

Starting from zero and want the full framework (charts, entries, exits, and a repeatable system)? Built a beginner course for exactly this: Day Trading Fundamentals.
