5 things silently killing your small business website (and how to fix them for free)

After managing 60+ websites for small businesses, I keep seeing the same problems over and over. Most business owners don't even know these issues exist — but they're costing you leads every single day.

1. Your SSL certificate expired (or was never set up)

That "Not Secure" warning in the browser? It makes 85% of visitors bounce immediately. Check yours right now — if the padlock icon is missing, you're losing customers.

2. You haven't updated WordPress/plugins in months

Outdated plugins are the #1 way small business sites get hacked. Set a calendar reminder for weekly updates, or have someone handle it for you.

3. Your site takes 4+ seconds to load on mobile

Google penalizes slow sites in search results. Run yours through PageSpeed Insights (free) — if you're scoring below 50 on mobile, you need image compression and caching ASAP.

4. You have zero SEO beyond your homepage

Most small business sites have great homepage copy but zero keyword targeting on inner pages. Every service page should target a specific local keyword.

5. No contact form = no leads

If your only CTA is "call us" or an email address, you're missing 70% of potential inquiries. People want to fill out a quick form, especially on mobile.

I handle all of this (and more) for my clients at Talented Devs. If any of these hit home, DM me — happy to do a free quick audit of your site.
