I fix phones/WiFi/gaming setups for a living — here's the #1 mistake I see people make

Been running TechLifeline for a bit now, helping people with phone, internet, and gaming setup issues. The #1 mistake I see, hands down:

People replace hardware before they diagnose the actual problem.

Real example from this week: someone was about to buy a new router because their WiFi was "always laggy during games." Turned out their PS5 was on 2.4GHz instead of 5GHz the whole time — one setting, zero dollars, fixed in 90 seconds.

Another one: guy thought his iPhone battery was dying (was going to pay $89 for a battery swap). It was one background app running location tracking 24/7. Killed it, battery life doubled.

Before you spend money on new gear, always check:

  1. Is it actually the hardware, or a setting?

  2. Has this device had a restart/update in the last week?

  3. Is the issue isolated to one device or app, or is it everything?

If you can't figure it out yourself, that's literally what TechLifeline is for — real answers, plain English, no upsell to buy stuff you don't need.

Your phone is slow, your WiFi drops, your setup's a mess — here's why

Most tech problems aren't complicated. They just look complicated because nobody explains them clearly.

Here's what actually causes 90% of the issues people deal with every day:

📱 Slow phone? Usually storage and background apps, not the phone itself. A proper cache clear + storage audit fixes it in minutes.

📡 WiFi keeps dropping? 9 times out of 10 it's your router placement or channel congestion — not your internet plan. Moving the router 6 feet can double your signal.

🎮 Gaming setup lag? Wireless is almost always the problem. A $15 ethernet adapter will outperform a $200 WiFi 6 router for gaming every time.

The problem isn't your gear. It's that nobody's ever walked you through the basics in plain English.

That's exactly what TechLifeline is. Real fixes, fast answers — no tech degree required.

Your internet dropping? Try these 3 things before you call your ISP

Most people call their internet provider the second their connection drops — then wait 45 minutes on hold to be told to restart their router.

Here are 3 things that fix 80% of internet issues before you even need to call anyone:

1. Power cycle in the right order

Unplug your modem first, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in. Wait for it to fully connect, THEN restart your router. Order matters.

2. Figure out if it's your device or your whole network

Try another device on the same WiFi. If only one device has issues, the problem is the device — not your internet. If everything's slow, it's your modem/router or your ISP.

3. Move your router off the floor

WiFi signal is weakest when the router is blocked by furniture or sitting on carpet. Elevate it, move it closer to where you use the internet most.

If none of these work — I run TechLifeline, a community where I personally help with phone issues, internet problems, and gaming setups. No jargon, no tech degree required. Just real help.
