The 3 fintech shifts every founder should be watching right now

Most founders I talk to are building products — but not watching the money infrastructure those products will eventually run on. That's a mistake.

Here are three shifts happening right now that will directly affect how your business makes, moves, and holds money:

1. Embedded finance is becoming the default

The best fintech opportunity in the next 3 years isn't building a bank — it's adding financial features directly into products people already use. Think: Shopify Capital, Uber Money, Doordash Payout. If you have a user base, you have a fintech opportunity.

2. AI is eating underwriting

Credit decisions, insurance pricing, fraud detection — these used to require enormous teams. AI is collapsing the cost to near zero. Startups that figure out how to leverage this early will have structural advantages that take incumbents years to catch up to.

3. Real-time payments are changing cash flow

Instant payouts are becoming table stakes. Users expect to get paid immediately. The businesses that solve the "waiting to get paid" problem for their customers will win loyalty that's hard to compete with.

None of these are theoretical — they're already happening. The question is whether you position around them now or react to them later.
