When someone's AC stops blowing cold, 60% of the time it's a bad capacitor. It's a $15 part and takes 20 minutes to swap. Homeowners pay $150–$300 because they don't know how easy it is.

What you need: Multimeter, screwdriver, new capacitor (match the specs on the old one).

2. Filter Change + System Tune-Up — $80–$150 per visit

Offer "seasonal maintenance packages." You change the filter, clean the outdoor unit, check the thermostat, and inspect connections. Takes 30–45 minutes. Recurring revenue if you set up quarterly visits.

3. Thermostat Installs — $100–$200 per job

Smart thermostats (Nest, Ecobee) are everywhere now. Most homeowners are scared to install them. You show up, wire it in 20 minutes, connect the app, and collect $100–$200. The homeowner already bought the thermostat — you're just installing it.

4. Condensate Drain Cleaning — $75–$175 per job

Clogged condensate drains cause water damage and AC shutdowns. You flush the line with a wet/dry vac or compressed air. Takes 15 minutes. Landlords and property managers will put you on speed dial for this.

5. Duct Sealing & Insulation — $200–$800 per job

Leaky ductwork wastes 20–30% of heating/cooling energy. You seal joints with mastic or foil tape and wrap exposed ducts with insulation. Bigger scope = bigger paycheck.

How to Get Your First Customer

• Post on Facebook Marketplace and Nextdoor: "HVAC tune-ups — $89. I come to you."

• Knock on doors in neighborhoods with older homes (pre-2005 builds)

• Tell every person you know what you do — referrals are king in this industry
