5 Things I Wish Someone Told Me When I First Became Muslim
When someone takes their shahada, the community celebrates ā then Monday comes and you're standing in a prayer line not knowing which rak'ah you're on.
Here are 5 things every revert needs to hear early on:
1. You don't need to learn everything at once.
Focus on the basics: wudu, fatiha, and the five daily prayers. That's your foundation. Everything else comes with time.
2. It's okay to pray slowly and make mistakes.
Allah sees your effort, not your perfection. The Prophet ļ·ŗ said the one who struggles with the Quran gets double the reward.
3. Find your community ā even if it's online.
Isolation is the #1 reason reverts drift away. Surround yourself with people who understand your journey.
4. Your past is wiped clean.
The moment you took shahada, you started fresh. Don't carry guilt from before ā that chapter is closed.
5. Ask questions. There are no dumb ones.
If you don't know why we raise our hands in prayer or what "subhanallah" means, ask. Knowledge is seeking, not pretending.
I built The Blessed Route to be the guide I wish I had. If you're a revert or thinking about Islam, this is your space.
