The #1 reason skinny guys stay skinny (it's not genetics)

I've coached hundreds of hardgainers. The ones who fail all make the same mistake:

They eat like a bird and train like a bodybuilder.

Here's what actually works when you're trying to go from 140 to 180:

You're not eating enough. Period. Track your calories for 3 days and I guarantee you're 500-1000 under where you need to be. Your "big meal" is someone else's snack.

You're doing too many exercises. Skinny guys don't need 6 bicep variations. You need compound lifts — squat, bench, deadlift, overhead press, rows. Get brutally strong at these 5 movements and the size follows.

You're not recovering. You grow outside the gym, not inside it. If you're sleeping 5 hours and training 6 days a week, you're spinning your wheels.

The formula is simple:

  • Eat in a 300-500 calorie surplus

  • Train 4x/week with progressive overload

  • Sleep 7-8 hours minimum

  • Be patient for 6-12 months

That's it. No magic supplements. No secret programs. Just consistency with the basics.

I built The Body Lab specifically for guys who are tired of being the smallest person in the room. If that's you — come join us.
