I started a trash can cleaning business this summer — here's what I've learned so far
Started The Can Man this summer doing something most people never think about: cleaning trash and recycling bins for neighbors.
A few things I've learned setting this up:
The service sells itself once people see the bin. Nobody thinks about how gross their trash can is until you show them a before/after.
Recurring beats one-time. A single cleaning is nice, but monthly or seasonal plans are where the real money is — set it and forget it for the customer.
Low overhead, high margin. A pressure washer, some biodegradable cleaner, and a bike or wagon to get around the neighborhood is basically all you need to start.
Word of mouth in a neighborhood spreads fast. One clean bin sitting on a driveway is basically a walking billboard.
Running it through Whop so bookings, chat, and scheduling are all in one place instead of juggling texts. If anyone else is running a local service business this summer, curious what's working for you.
