Most students who say "I want to be a civil engineer" have no idea what civil engineers actually do day to day.

They picture bridges and skyscrapers. That's about 10% of it.

Here's what the job actually looks like:

Structural engineers spend most of their time doing load calculations, reviewing shop drawings, and coordinating with contractors — not designing iconic buildings.

Transportation engineers are deep in traffic modeling software, reviewing intersection counts, and working with city planners on signal timing.

Geotechnical engineers are often in the field doing soil borings — writing reports that are absolutely critical to every major project.

Water/environmental engineers are the unsung heroes — designing the infrastructure that keeps cities from flooding and drinking water clean.
