5 fitness mistakes almost everyone over 30 is making (and what to do instead)
You're not 22 anymore. Your body is literally telling you that every morning — and most people just push through it.
Here are the 5 biggest mistakes I see adults 30-50 make with their health:
1. Skipping the warm-up because "I don't have time"
You have time to be injured for 6 weeks? A 5-minute warm-up prevents months of setbacks. Your joints need to be asked nicely before they perform.
2. Only doing cardio OR only lifting
Runners who never touch a weight lose muscle every year after 30. Lifters who never do mobility work end up stiff and broken. You need both — plus flexibility work. Non-negotiable.
3. Eating like you're still in college
Your metabolism has changed. That protein bar and coffee for breakfast isn't cutting it. You need real meals — whole foods, enough protein (most people get half of what they need), and actual vegetables. Not a juice cleanse. Real food, consistently.
4. Training through pain and calling it "toughness"
That shoulder twinge isn't a badge of honor. It's a warning. Smart training means knowing the difference between discomfort and damage. Ignoring pain at 35 means surgery at 45.
5. No recovery strategy whatsoever
Sleep, stretching, walking, hydration — these aren't optional add-ons. They're the foundation. You can't out-train a body that never recovers.
The fix isn't complicated. It's about doing the right things consistently — functional movement, proper nutrition, and actually listening to your body.
That's exactly what I break down every week inside The Fit Letter. Real strategies for people who want to stay active and pain-free for decades, not just look good for a beach trip.
