The #1 mistake intermediate lifters make (and how to fix it)
You've been lifting for a year or two. You're past the beginner gains phase. And now... progress has stalled.
Here's what's probably happening:
You're program hopping. Every 3 weeks you switch to a new split you saw on TikTok. New exercises, new rep ranges, new everything.
The fix is boring but it works: progressive overload on the same movements for 8-12 weeks.
Your body adapts to volume and intensity over time, not novelty. That means:
Pick 4-5 compound lifts as your anchors
Add weight OR reps every week (even 2.5lbs counts)
Track everything — if you're not logging, you're guessing
Deload every 4th week to let your CNS recover
I've been coaching intermediate lifters through structured hypertrophy blocks for years now. The ones who commit to a single program for a full mesocycle always break through.
If you're stuck in the plateau zone and want a structured path forward, The Grind Academy is where I run my full coaching programs. New blocks drop monthly with progressive overload built in.
Stop guessing. Start grinding.
