The barcode is the search box. Stop typing SKUs.

Most warehouse 'inventory sheets' are a spreadsheet someone named after a month. By Thursday nobody knows who pulled the last pallet of fittings, when it left, or what job it went to. The sheet is a list. It is not a log.

A log answers four questions on every unit:

  • What is this item, in a sentence a new hire understands

  • What is the barcode, so a scanner finds it without a search

  • Who took it, and when it left the rack

  • What it was used for

If you cannot answer those from the row, you do not have control. You have a file.

The Inventory Engine is built around the scan. Point a USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner at the box, the row opens, you fill who / when / why. Type the code if you have to. Export to Excel when accounting asks.

That is the whole job. Do it every time something leaves the floor, and the 2am 'who took the 3/4 couplings' message stops.
