1. Writing about Morehouse like it's any HBCU

Admissions can tell when you copy-paste your essay from another school's app or use AI. They want to know why Morehouse specifically — the Brotherhood, the legacy, the mission. If your essay could work for any school, it's not ready.

2. Listing achievements instead of telling a story

Your transcript already shows your GPA and activities. The essay is your chance to show who you are — your perspective, your growth, your why. Lead with a moment, not a resume.

3. Forgetting to connect your future to Morehouse's mission

The strongest essays show how Morehouse fits into your bigger vision. What will you do with this education? How does attending Morehouse specifically help you get there?
