I've been through it. And I've helped others get through it. Here's what I wish someone told me on Day 1:
1. Your brain will lie to you.
Around day 7-14, your mind starts telling you that it "wasn't that bad." That you can handle it now. That one more time won't hurt. This is your dopamine system throwing a tantrum because you cut off its supply. Recognise it for what it is — withdrawal talking, not reality.
2. Boredom is the real enemy.
Most relapses don't happen during moments of intense craving. They happen during idle Tuesday afternoons when you have nothing to do. The fix isn't willpower — it's structure. Fill your calendar. Walk. Cook. Clean. Read. Do anything that occupies your hands and your brain.
3. You need a system, not just motivation.
Motivation fades by week 2. What keeps you going is a daily rhythm — something that tells you what to do when your brain can't decide. Check in with someone. Write one sentence about how you feel. Move your body for 10 minutes. Small, non-negotiable actions compound.
If you're in the first 30 days right now — keep going. The fog lifts. It genuinely does.
