The 3 candle scents that actually sell (and the ones sitting on shelves)
I've tested over 40 fragrance blends and sold 500+ candles. Here's what I've learned about what people actually buy vs. what looks good on Pinterest.
Scents that move fast:
🥇 Warm vanilla + sandalwood — This outsells everything 3:1. It's not original, and that's the point. People buy comfort.
🥈 Fresh linen + eucalyptus — The "clean home" scent. Repeat purchase rate is insane because people burn through these.
🥉 Lavender + cedarwood — The sleep candle. Market it for bedtime routines and it sells itself.
Scents that sound cool but sit on shelves:
❌ Bacon, coffee, or any "novelty" scent — fun gifts, zero repeat purchases.
❌ Overly floral blends — rose + jasmine + peony = headache in a jar. Pick ONE floral and pair it with something grounding.
❌ "Luxury" dupes — trying to clone high-end perfumes rarely works because the throw is completely different in soy wax.
The real lesson: Your best sellers won't be your most creative scents. They'll be the ones that make someone's apartment feel like home.
