The 3 things I wish I knew before freelance scriptwriting

I spent months figuring out freelance scriptwriting the hard way. Here's what would've saved me a lot of time:

1. You don't need a portfolio to get started.

Most clients care about one thing: can you write something that sounds like them? Record yourself watching their content, take notes on their tone and pacing, and write a 60-second sample script in their voice. That's your audition. No fancy website needed.

2. The money isn't in "writing" — it's in the system.

Anyone can write a script. What clients actually pay for is someone who can deliver reliably — on time, formatted correctly, with revisions handled fast. The writers who earn consistently aren't the most talented. They're the most organized.

3. Cold outreach works if you lead with value.

Don't send "hey I'm a scriptwriter, hire me." Instead, pick a creator, write them a free sample script, and send it with a short note explaining your approach. 1 in 10 will respond. That's all you need.

I packaged everything I learned into a starter kit — the step-by-step guide, outreach templates, AI prompts, and a delivery system. If you're serious about making scriptwriting a side hustle, it's all here.
