The 3-minute reset I give every high-performer who tells me they can't sleep
They always say the same thing: "My brain won't shut off."
It's not a sleep problem. It's a deactivation problem. Your nervous system is still running at full speed and you're asking it to park.
Here's what actually works — and it takes 3 minutes:
1. Exhale first. Most people try to breathe in deeply. That actually activates you more. Start with a long, slow exhale. 6 seconds out through the mouth.
2. Name 3 things that are done. Not 3 things you're grateful for — 3 things that are finished. "I sent that email. I ate dinner. I locked the door." You're telling your brain: the day is closed.
3. Put your hand on your chest. Not because it's spiritual — because pressure on the sternum activates the vagus nerve and slows your heart rate. Hold it for 60 seconds.
That's it. Do it tonight. You'll feel the difference before you finish step 3.
I'm a physician who spent years watching high-achievers burn out because nobody taught them how to come down. That's why I built The Still Method — a structured path to get your mind to work with you instead of against you.
