The 3 mistakes every beginner makes in the gym (and what to do instead)
I've coached dozens of beginners and the same three things trip up almost everyone in their first few months.
1. Program hopping
You don't need the perfect routine. You need a routine that you follow consistently for 8-12 weeks. The best program is the one you actually stick with. Pick a simple push/pull/legs or upper/lower split and commit.
2. Ignoring progressive overload
If you're lifting the same weight every week, you're not training — you're exercising. Track your sets, reps, and weight. Add a little each week. This is the single most important principle in strength training.
3. Majoring in the minors
Spending 30 minutes on bicep curls and 5 minutes squatting is backwards. Compound movements (squat, deadlift, bench, rows, overhead press) should make up 80% of your training. Everything else is accessories.
Fix these three things and you'll see more progress in 8 weeks than most people see in 8 months.
If you want structured programs and direct coaching, The Training Lab is built for beginners who are ready to take it seriously.
